Importance of leadership


When you imagine a leader, what does one see?


In a company set-up, typically the CEO or some other person in the senior leadership team.
In a political set-up, somebody who is boldly leading his party, or somebody fighting for the rights of the people in her constituency.

In a social set-up, somebody who is inexhaustibly working towards bringing a few social changes.
In a cultural set-up, our neighbor Aunty is organizing the annual New Year’s Party for the residents of the colony.

In an academic set-up, it is the school principal.

In a student set-up, it is someone in the Student Council.

However, the months, I have realized that the conception of leadership as I understood it was flawed.
This is a world full of ordinary people like me who do extraordinary things. We live our regular lives with purpose, with love, with meaning; and even the little things we do become powerful, impactful stories.

Leadership is about leading the self, not others.

Leadership can be about taking care of my physical and emotional well-being. It may be regarding focusing on my integrity, character, values, and beliefs which define me. It can be regarding being on this journey of life & ultimately finding joy in selfless service. It can be about any of the thousand ways within which I decide to contribute to this world.
