GD-PI and WAT; these three are important parts of the MBA admission procedure. These three steps are generally personality assessment tests to check aspirant’s skills like leadership, communication, logical reasoning, problem-solving ability and firmness, these skills are very essential managerial skills.

All MBA aspirants, after clearing the written exam should be preparing the very important step to enroll for an MBA in any discipline is Group Discussion. Preparing for clearing this stage is very crucial as it will lead you to the final round of Personal Interview.  There are certain Must-dos for an aspirant MBA should consider while preparation. The GD topics for MBA topics such as current affairs, Business and Economy, social issues and sometimes the abstract topics to check the creativity of the students.

How to prepare for a GD?
  • Your preparation should start the day you start preparing for CAT exam.
  • READ NEWSPAPERS daily, especially in the business sector. Keep reading Economics Times, Mint or Business Standards regularly.
  • Improve your conversational skills by speaking in English.
  • Mock GDs are the best way to prepare.
The first and foremost thing you should be doing is read, read and read more. The reading should be a comprehensive one that can help you to identify the theme of the passage. Simply scanning the article will not help, use the skimming technique for reading. Once done with reading, practice with your friends on how to prepare for GD or how to take part in a live GD. You need to keep in mind when to enter the GD, wait for the right moment - such as when others a small pause or some other chance, make sure that you are loud enough and positive on your points.

It is not at all necessary to agree on something everyone is readily agreeing; you may have your opinion with justifications or reasons. In this process make sure that you do not try to prove others wrong.

Type of GD Topics
There are four types of GD Topics for MBA:
  • GD Topics on Business & Economy: It includes current trends in business and economy, major policy initiatives, latest business trends, and their impact globally and nationally.
  • GD Topics on Current Affairs: The GD topics on Current affairs may be based on national or international political development, Policies, and issues which are highly debated in media.
  • GD topics on Social Issues: Top MBA Colleges are focusing on developing socially responsible MBAs. Hence, there is a greater emphasis on issues like gender and environment sensitivity, ethics etc. The big business houses have a well set CSR - Corporate Social Responsibility - unit. 
  • GD Topics on Abstract Topics: You might be thinking what are the abstract GD topics? These are the topics which have multiple interpretations and candidates can show their creativity and smart thinking. These topics can be tricky at times. You really need to be spontaneous to take part in this.
